Welcome to Acorn Class!
Acorn Class are our youngest group of children, all aged between 4 and 5 years old. They are taught by Mrs Claudine Clarke (Monday – Wednesday) and Miss Megan Tonkyn (Thursday and Friday). Mrs Jackie Upfold, our wonderful teaching assistant, is with them every day of the week and remains with the children at lunchtimes too. On Wednesdays the children have Aspire PE taught by Mr Nigel Gardner.
We spend a lot of time getting to know the children and finding out what is important to each child, including their favourite things and interests. We are always amazed by how quickly the children settle into school life. They have continuous access to carefully planned play activities both inside and outside the classroom.
We welcome parent’s input into their child’s unique learning experience and encourage you to work closely with us in planning for and supporting the children’s next steps. Please come and see us if you have any questions or worries and do keep us informed of any special achievements that your child makes at home so we can celebrate and record them at school as well.

Last week we had a very exciting time learning all about chinese New Year. The children took part in a wide variety of activities including making Chinese lanterns, having a go at Chinese writing and coin rubbing to make coins for lucky money bags. We learnt it was the year of the rabbit and this led to lots of rabbit themed artwork. In literacy they made and followed instructions to create their own stretchy dragon puppets. We set up a Chinese restaurant and had fun taking orders, writing menus and creating lists of different foods.

What a busy and exciting few weeks we have had! The children are really enjoying our Once Upon a Time topic and have been reading and comparing lots of different versions of traditional fairy tales. For the last two weeks, we have concentrated mainly on the stories of the Three Little Pigs and The Three Billy Goats Gruff. They have impressed us with their writing and enjoyed all sorts of craft activities relating to these stories.
