Welcome to Oak Class
I am pleased to welcome Oak Class pupils and their families to the new school year. This will be an exciting year of learning, growth and new adventures as children build on their skills, develop confidence and work together as a team. There is a lot to look forward to and I can't wait to see the enthusiasm and creativity that every pupil brings to our classroom. The adults working in Oak Class this year are myself (Ms Leeb) and Miss Vincent.

History: The Kingdom of Benin
What was life like in the Kingdom of Benin and how did contact with Europeans change it?
In this interesting topic we will explore aspects of life in Ancient Benin through oral histories and artefacts. We will find out where Ancient Benin was on a map and where it sits historically, in relation to other important historical events. The children will find out why the famous Benin bronzes are important and what they teach us about life in Benin. They will investigate changes to the Kingdom once the Europeans arrived and the reasons the British became involved in Benin and the consequences of this.

How do the different systems in our body work together?
The main focus of this fascinating topic is the circulatory system in the human body. There will be lots of practical activities and investigations. The children will learn about blood vessels, the different parts of the blood and what each one does. They will explore the structure and function of the heart and its function. They will explain how the circulatory system works to transport water and nutrients through the body. We will also look at the effects of healthy and unhealthy diets, exercise and drugs.
