I am so excited to get started and stuck in with lots of new learning, develop new skills and work with a variety of new children! Chestnut will have many opportunities for new friendship building, teamwork, independent opportunities and sharing their voice! So let's have an incredible year together! :)
Website will be updated weekly, every Friday, with pictures of our learning and any other exciting stuff we get up to!
Please Note: I will be deleting all updates every 2 weeks. This is to help ensure that accessing the website isn't too slow due to the amount of photos uploaded. So make sure you've caught up each week :)

Learning Conversations:
For the rest of the half term, instead of a learning conversation, spend this time with your child practicing their lines for the nativity :)

Character speakers- ideally these need to be learnt off by heart
Narrators- these don't need to be learnt, they will have them to read, but practicing so they get familiar with what their lines are will still be helpful.
Thank you! :)
Week 5
Happy December! We have kicked off December right with advent calendars, christmas decoration making and nativity rehearsals! It's all go!!

This week in English, we were beginning to look at understanding what makes a good setting narrative ready to start writing ours next week. We analysed the text closely, looking for different features, including capital letters, full stops and finger spaces, while the year 2s focused on different specific language and structural features.

In Maths, we started looking at a new topic- shape. We this week have focused on identifying 2D and 3D shapes, while doing shape hunts around the room.
Symbols of Scotland: A Visual Guide - Symbol SageOn Monday, when we all got to school, we realised that Larry was missing. We soon realised he'd left us a note, which stated that he loved our Edinburgh bus tour so much last week that he had to go and actually try it out himself....!
He returned back to school on Tuesday and shared with us his adventure. We could not believe what he had got up to! He visited, Edinburgh Castle, Arthur's Seat, The Royal Mile and some other interesting places!
Please see below all of Larry's pictures from his adventure!Symbols of Scotland: A Visual Guide - Symbol Sage
After Larry told us about his exciting adventure he had also brought back some gifts... Some Scottish food to try for DT! He brought back some oatcakes and shortbread! We thought about words we could use to describe how these foods tasted. The oatcakes were dry and savoury while the shortbread was sweet and crumbly.
We then decided that we wanted to make our own Christmas themed shortbread because we loved the taste so much! We planned what ingredients we might need- adding a healthy twist too and drew out our design. Thinking about the adjectives we used to describe the shortbread, we wrote some down on how we wanted ours to taste. Sweet? Tasty? Wet? Dry? Crumbly?
The Fascinating Origins of 16 Popular Christmas Traditions - HolidappyAfter a couple of weeks ago in DT when we practised our cutting techniques on oranges, this week we used them to make our Christmas decorations. On Thursday we let them sit in the oven all day on low, watching them throughout the day start the dry and crisp up (and unfortunately slightly burn :/, nothing that can't be fixed though! :D )
Once the oranges had dried, on Friday some of us decorated them and the rest of us will do them next week. We painted on them, stuck on glitter, etc! They look wonderful!
Week 4
Busy Busy Busy! Sorry, not as many updates/ pictures this week! As Christmas draws closer, there will be lots more!

This week in RE we visited the church to have a Baptism demonstration by Simon the vicar. It was very interesting seeing where they take place and what is used! (Sorry that some of the pictures are so dark)
This week in Geography we went on a bus tour around Edinburgh!  We visited, Edinburgh Castle, Arthur's Seat and the Royal Mile. We explored each area and wrote a postcard to family describing where we visited!
Knowledge Organisers

Please find below the knowledge organisers linked to your child's learning this term. This document provides details of the key knowledge the children are expected to learn across the sequence of learning. We would encourage parents and carers to look at these with their children and regularly spend time discussing the facts on the sheets.
