A fun week had by all, with a first look at our nativity! Very excited!
This week in English we are starting to get ready to write our setting narrative. We have been looking at a WAGOLL example (what a good one looks like), identifying what different structural and language features there are.
In Math's we have been looking a different methods when adding, seeing how many ways you can work out addition sentences.
In PE we are doing gymnastics, and this week we were looking at different balances, thinking about where we could do them! We started off with a 'tension activity', testing out if our partners can hold a strong balance by trying to push their arms down.
Ourcomputingfocus this half term is take photos and how to take photos on different medias. This week we played photo bingo where we needed to take different types of pictures. Some of the best were our selfies and action shot pictures!
In Geography this week we learnt about physical features of a place. We added to our maps from last week, where we now have physical and human features in our villages!
In Music this week we have been listening to some of the movements from 'Carnival of the Animals'. We listened to the movement 'fossils' and 'the swan', two very different types of music and we mark made on paper based on the sounds we heard. It was very interesting listening to the different pieces and creating the different marks for each.
This week in DT we explored some of Miss Lloyd's creations of sliders and levers and then created our own as practice for our big project in a few weeks|!
A great first week back, with an excellent end to it! Looking forward to a jam packed half term with lots of fun and excitement.
In English we started our new book: 'The Night Gardener'. We have shown great interest in the plot and the journey of the story! We wrote predictions and simile poems about what we know so far!
In Maths we have been continuing to look at addition and subtraction but looked at how we can use our number bonds to 10 to help with other addition problems! On Friday we did some problem solving and reasoning!
For our new topic in Geography, we are comparing a village to a city. Before we can compare, we need to understand the features. This week we looked at what human features were and created our own lego maps with some human features on. In our maps we had, houses, shops, parks, airports, factories, farms! Next week we will look at including physical features to our maps! In a few weeks we will be comparing a village and a city in the UK!
In RE we are learning about how Christians feel a sense of belonging within the church so we spoke about how we belong in the class. We spoke about how at school we are a school family and when you go to church you are in a church family. To show this, together we created a lego version of our classroom and put ourselves inside it. We spoke about how even when we leave the classroom we are still part of the family.
In DT we are looking at 'sliders and levers' with the end goal to create our own sliders or lever! Today we explored some sliders and levers in books and looked at the key words- 'slider' 'lever' and 'pivot', understanding what they mean.
Apologies for missing last week, it has been a jam packed 2 weeks!
Over the past 2 weeks in English, we have finished our circular narratives and have started the next piece of writing. Next week we will be writing a letter to the main character to warn him of the dangers of the river! This week we have been exploring and thinking about the different dangers of each setting , ready for our letter writing.
In Math's we have started to look at addition and subtraction, with the idea of counting on. We are using base 10 and other resources to help!
In Art we joined forces with Willow Class for our wax resist leaf piece after completing our pen leaf pictures last lesson . We collected autumnal leaves which we then drew in crayon. Then we thought carefully about which colour inks we'd need to apply and explored which order would produced the best results. The children created stunning wax resist leaf paintings - Definitely worth a visit to see this in our Art Exhibition next week!
We had our parents and grandparents visit with old toys for our History which was lots of fun and very interesting because we were able to explore all the different types! We were able to ask questions and even play with some!
In our reading we have been exploring all the skills to read. One skill is looking at the types of vocabulary, and to do this we used dictionaries for the first time. The children worked in pairs and got really stuck in!
InEnglish we have continued to write and plan our circular narratives, ensuring to include our grammar and punctuation in the plans! It has been helpful to practice planning and learning how to plan with just words and phrases instead of full sentences.
In Math's we have been continuing to look at place value, understanding the value of each digit. We have looked at the numbers on a number line, understanding where numbers are placed and why.
On Thursday we joined with Willow class to watch a Harvest Assembly LIVE! WE learnt the origins of different ingredients to go in a Caribbean soup. We saw wheat and celery being harvested as well as answering lots of different questions. We wrote and drew pictures on the different ingredients included!
In Art we kept our explorer and collector hats on and drew leaves. We used pens to do this so we took our time and were able to add details to the leaf. This meant we couldn't rub anything out and were able to have lots of tries at it.
InEnglish, we began to plan our circular narrative and write an opening to our story. We thought about what grammar and punctuation to include and this into our plans. We are starting to gain an understanding of why we plan before we write and will continue to embed this.
InMath'swe have continued to look at tens but are now looking at the "extra bit" in numbers (eg, 23, 45 instead of 20, 40). To show this, we put the numbers into a place value chart, to show the tens and the ones. We used a range of resources to show this.
We have started a new topic in Music and this week we were looking at beats. We learned a song called "Tony's Chestnut" which helped us with understanding the beats. See if you can guess why!
In Art we continued to be explorers but this week we used just our touch! We had a mystery object behind our backs and needed to feel it and draw what we could feel, no looking! This was fun and really got us thinking about textures and shapes of objects.
In English we are daily learning new grammar and punctuation techniques, which is helping to broaden our writing! We have learnt expanded noun phrases by including commas and apostrophes to show possession and belonging "Tom's boat was old".
In Math's we have been developing our knowledge of 10, understanding '1 group of 10' or 'a multipleof 10'. One way to understand this was measuring different things in the classroom seeing how many 'multiples of 10' tall they were. This was to help grasp how big a multiple of 10 is.
In Science we were learning about vertebrates and invertebrates, and created our very own. We used pipe cleaners as these helped us to see or not to see the bones in the animals or insects.
In Art, we are looking at how we can make artwork with not just pencils and paints but things collected from anywhere! This week we were explorers and collectors, and collected anything we could find outside, including rubbish found on the floor. The children had creative freedom with what to create! Here are the results! Some found it easier than others!
We are back and raring to go, with a full on week of new learning!
In English we started our new book 'A River' and have began different types of writing for it, including a character description and an alliteration poem! We have also been learning some new punctuation and grammar techniques, including , coordinating and subordinating conjunctions (when, because, but) and using an expanding noun phrase with the introduction of a comma.
In ourMathswe have been working hard on our problem solving and reasoning. We have been able to practice the skills of "why" and "how". These will be developed everyday in our maths lessons as we practice them further.
We have been introduced to our new topic in History this half term, Toys from the Past. Last week spoke about our toys from home and thought about how we would sort them. We have been able to play in our toy shop role play area, with a variety of modern toys in!
BUTon Wednesday the toy shop had been mysteriously changed!? It was suddenly full of old toys from the past! We had the opportunity to play with these and we compared them to modern toys, think about their looks, size and material.
This week the children had the opportunity to run for the year 2 school councilor! There were some brilliant speeches, with lots of children very passionate about why they wanted to be school councilor!

Part 2: Cookie Policy
Last Edited: 22nd April 2021
This Cookie Policy explains how eSchools use cookies and similar technologies in our Services. It explains what these technologies are and why we use them, as well as your rights to control their use.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small data files that are placed on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. Cookies are widely used by online service providers in order to (for example) make their websites or services work, or to work more efficiently, as well as to provide reporting information.
Cookies set by the website owner or service provider (in this case, eSchools) are called “first party cookies”. Cookies set by parties other than the website owner are called “third party cookies”. Third party cookies enable third party features or functionality to be provided on or through the website or service you are using (such as advertising, interactive content and analytics). The third parties that set these third party cookies can recognise your computer both when it visits the website or service in question and also when it visits certain other websites or services.
Why do we use cookies and other tracking technologies?
We use first party and third party cookies for several reasons. Some cookies are required for technical reasons in order for our Services to operate, and we refer to these as “essential” cookies. Other cookies enable us and the third parties we work with to track and target the interests of visitors to our Services, and we refer to these as “advertising” or “analytical” cookies. For example, the embedding of YouTube and Vimeo videos, as added by individual schools, will require “advertising” cookies to be enabled in order to successfully play them. Schools that, for example, opt to track visitor data using Google Analytics will require “analytical” cookies to be enabled in order to do so. These third party cookies are used to tailor content and information that we may send or display to you and otherwise personalise your experience while interacting with our Services and to otherwise improve the functionality of the Services we provide. We also enable schools to employ cookies and similar tracking technologies in connection with their use of our Services in order to allow them to track visitors to and interactions with their school website.

eSchools websites may request cookies to be set on your device. We use cookies to let us know when you visit our websites, how you interact with us and to enrich your user experience. The cookies differ depending on the information. You can adapt your cookie preferences, although please note that blocking some types of cookies may impact your experience on our websites and the services we are able to offer. We will not, without your express consent, supply your personal information to any third party for the purpose of their or any other third party's direct marketing.
User Embedded Content
Our Services allows schools to embed code which may potentially contain cookies. Please note embedded content, if displayed on one of our websites, has been added by the school and not by eSchools. The embedded content added by the school may require additional cookies or tracking technologies to be enabled in order to function.
